Biocides

Biocide products are applied in order to control organisms that are dangerous to the health of humans or animals or could damage natural or manufactured materials. Harmful organisms are for example insects, bacteria, fungi, rodents, shells, algae or viruses. The versatile application areas of biocide products are separated into four main groups and 22 subgroups (product types) according to appendix V of the biocide decree:

Main group 1: Disinfectants

• Product type 1: Human hygiene
• Product type 2: Disinfectants and algicides, not suitable for direct application with humans or animals
• Product type 3: Veterinary hygiene
• Product type 4: Food and feed area disinfectants
• Product type 5: Drinking water disinfectants

Main group 2: Preservatives

• Product type 6: In-can preservatives
• Product type 7: Film preservatives
• Product type 8: Wood preservatives
• Product type 9: Fiber, leather, rubber and polymerized materials preservatives
• Product type 10: Masonry preservatives
• Product type 11: Preservatives for liquid-cooling and processing systems
• Product type 12: Slimicides
• Product type 13: Metalworking-fluid preservatives

Main group 3: Pesticides

• Product type 14: Rodenticides
• Product type 15: Avicides
• Product type 16: Molluscicides
• Product type 17: Piscicides
• Product type 18: Insecticides, acaricides and products against other arthropods (e.g. insects, arachnids and crustaceans)
• Product type 19: Repellents and attractants
• Product type 20: Products against other vertebrates

Main group 4: Other biocide products

• Product type 21: Anti-fouling products
• Produktart 22: Product type 22: Embalming and taxidermist fluids

EU-Regulation 528/2012, active since September 1, 2013, governs the market deployment and application of biocide products. It administers that biocide products belonging to the aforementioned product types have to be registered before they can be used. As a result, our customers may find that specific substances and products are no longer available for certain applications.
We are happy to inform our partners regarding which registration processes are relevant for them and which of the biocide products they use have not been registered, yet. Our experts also advise and support you in case product transitions are necessary.
